Local Living Lab in Ireland!

The “Reading for Emotional and Academic Development – READ” project (2023-1-PL01-KA220-SCH-000156235) is moving on! On the 29^th of November 2024, Eurospeak organised an online workshop (Local Living Lab) with 5 teachers and experts from the areas of Bundoran and Donegal in Ireland.  

The aim of teachers’ workshop was to inform them about the aims of the READ project with a special focus on the upcoming LLL (Local Living Lab) in Ireland that was scheduled for the 5^th of December 2024. The “Facilitator’s Guide for Encouraging Student-Led Book Club Meetings for READ project” was presented thoroughly. A discussion on how to use the prompts suggested and when was followed. Teachers showed a special interest in the possible questions to ask during the Book Club Journal Discussion. The book initially selected by the Glebe School titled: “Fia and the last snow deer” by Eilish Fisher. 

However, when the date for the LLL was approaching the teacher who was going to implement the LLL decided to change that book to the “Velveteen Rabbit” book written by Margery William’s. When the day of the LLL came, the presentation opened with a brainstorming activity by asking students whether they like reading. Students answered also which is their favourite place to read, when they prefer to read and what type of books or comics they enjoy reading more. 

The text selected for the LLL in Ireland was “Leo’s Waffle Adventure” middle level. The story of Leo was presented in 3 different formats:  

• The first one was the classic one like in a book with the biggest text. 

• The second one was a comic created by Eurospeak. 

• The third one was in the form of an AI generated video with little text. 

Can you guess which was children’s favourite? 

All children replied that they enjoyed the LLL session and found it cool, nice and interesting as they learnt something new. Unanimously, their favourite version of the story was the comic created by Eurospeak! Are you curious to read it?
