Zero Waste Fashion Week in Granada!

On the 20th of October 2025 the training of the Eco-fashion project (project’s number: KA210-SCH-DE4EE9A8) took place in Granada and lasted for the whole week until the 24th of October 2025. The training was hosted by the Spanish coordinator; Compañia de Maria de Granada and was titled as: “Zero Waste Fashion Week: Granada’s Heritage Meets EcoEducation”.

More than 25 teachers and students were actively involved in various creative workshops and inspiring activities that took place throughout the week. The opening of this Fashion Week has been made by a talk on “Sustainable Flamenco Fashion” by the expert on this topic: Antonio Gutiérrez, who is a well-known fashion designer. Later, an icebreaking activity took place, which enabled all participants to get to know each other better. After those, students from all partner countries presented the economic situation of second-hand shops in their local areas; in Spain, in Italy, in France, in Türkiye and in Ireland.

On the second date, all participants were actively engaged into a workshop titled: “Designing Flamenco”. Upon forming groups, they collaborated with the members of their group to design and create a flamenco shawl based on the name of the fashion designer they were assigned to research more about his/her work. The results were astonishing!

In the morning of the third day, all participants took a bus to the nearby city of Caja, where the silk museum is located. Divided into two groups they were guided to the underground museum and heard the inspiring story of Carmen “Las sedas” and the local custom of “Los Farolitos”. In the meanwhile, the other group enjoyed the spectacular view of the local cafeteria and vice versa. After this visit, when everyone returned to the school the presentations by the students on stories about reuse continued.

The next day was devoted to a visit in “Alhambra” where students from the host school offered a guided tour to the rest of the participants. At night teachers had the chance to watch a live flamenco show performed by local artists; dancers, musicians and singers.

The “Zero Waste Fashion Week” couldn’t end better than a Fashion show featuring the designs created by all during the “Designing Flamenco” workshop. That incorporated all the knowledge gathered throughout the week and both teachers and students enjoyed it and had a lot of fun by listening to flamenco music!

The “Zero Waste Fashion Week” in Granada ended on a positive note, with participants inspired and empowered to incorporate sustainability into fashion education. Over the course of the week, teachers and students from all over Europe were exposed to a harmonious combination of cultural immersion, eco-awareness and creative teamwork. The series of workshops, site visits and art showcases effectively illustrated how heritage, design and sustainability can go hand in hand. The last fashion show not only presented a celebration of the participants’ creativity but also symbolised the project’s essence to foster eco-awareness and circular economy principles in the fashion sector. The training week was a complete success, reinforcing intercultural relations and establishing a solid ground for future cooperation under the Eco-fashion project.
