EDICRA Project Partners Meet in Dublin to Lay the Foundation for European Handicraft Digitalization

Handicraft was the focus on November 21st and 22nd, 2022, in Dublin, Ireland, as Eurospeak hosted the inaugural meeting of the EDICRA project, a collaborative initiative focused on the digitalisation of European handicrafts. The meeting brought together partners from various countries to set the stage for an innovative approach to preserving and promoting traditional crafts through modern technology.

The two-day gathering served as the official launch pad for the project, allowing partners to align on goals, establish clear roles, and map out the next steps for implementation. Discussions centred on structuring upcoming activities, ensuring seamless coordination across partner organisations, and developing strategies to effectively achieve the project’s objectives. With a shared commitment to preserving cultural heritage, the group explored how digital tools can expand the reach of traditional crafts, making them more accessible to contemporary audiences.

A standout feature of the meeting was a visit to local arts and crafts shops in Dublin. This excursion provided partners with first-hand insights into the daily practices and challenges faced by artisans. Engaging with local artists not only deepened the partners’ understanding of the sector but also highlighted the importance of balancing heritage preservation with modernization.

The meeting was further enriched by the presence of two guest artists, Mr. Alessandro and Mr. Eduardo, who showcased their exceptional creations. Their work exemplified the fusion of traditional craftsmanship with innovative techniques, offering a glimpse into the transformative potential of combining art and technology. Their presentations inspired discussions about how the EDICRA project could empower artisans across Europe to embrace similar approaches.

Looking ahead, the EDICRA partners are gearing up for a series of engaging activities designed to support the handicraft community. These initiatives will focus on equipping artisans with the tools and knowledge needed to digitize their work, expand their audiences, and adapt to a changing marketplace while maintaining their cultural roots.

This initial meeting in Dublin has set a solid foundation for EDICRA’s vision, and the partners are enthusiastic about the journey ahead. Stay tuned for more updates as EDICRA advances its mission to celebrate and innovate Europe’s rich handicraft heritage.
