Teacher Training of the READ project in Kosice!

Teacher Training of the READ project in Kosice!

In March’s article about the READ project we informed you on what was coming next. From the 8th until the 10th of April 2025 the Learning Teaching and Training Activity of the “Reading for Emotional and Academic Development – READ” project (2023-1-PL01-KA220-SCH-000156235) took place in Slovakia and it was hosted by Flexskill.

In the city of Kosice, a total of 17 participants, who were invited by the partner organisations  attended this training. Among them there were kindergarten, primary and secondary school teachers, librarians, trainers and a university professor. Participants came from Poland, Slovenia, Greece, Ireland, Bulgaria and of course from Slovakia.

The presentations delivered throughout the training were interactive. Participants had the chance to work together both in small and in large groups. They were informed about the READ project and its progress so far, they worked on parts of the Book Club Journal, and they were engaged in various activities and small workshops. Participants had a lot of fun during the ice-breaking activity on the first day and the energising activities throughout the training. They were motivated on learning more about reading for emotional development, and they were interested in exploring new ways of approaching reading with their students.

Apart from the training programme, participants enjoyed a guided tour of the historic city centre of Košice. Despite the cold weather, walking in the old town of Košice was a nice experience. Some participants also visited the East Slovak Museum, which was very close to the training venue. It was established in 1872, and it is one of the oldest museums in Slovakia. Notable exhibits include archaeological artefacts, historical furniture and a relocated wooden church from 1741.

One of the training’s highlights was the visit to Košice City Youth Library, which is celebrating its 70 years since its first opening. The librarians working there warmly narrated to some participants the story of the Košice City Youth Library, the events planned there and showed them around the modern different areas of the library.  That was a visit that united librarians of the Kosice City Youth Library, of the Central Library of Kalamata in Greece and the Luben Karavelov Regional Library of Ruse in Bulgaria!

All in all, the feedback by the participants was positive, and they all enjoyed being part of such an interesting training activity!
