KidLe’s Pedagogical Handbook

KidLe Project

Since April 2025, KidLe’s consortium has started making a joint effort on developing an intercultural game as a pedagogical tool for the inclusion of children with migrant backgrounds in new learning environments. This effort was concluded in the development of the KidLe’s Pedagogical Handbook on the Intercultural pack of Digital Games, which will be presented thoroughly in this article.

What is the aim of KidLe’s Pedagogical Handbook?

It aims to explain how the gaming pack can build various children’s skills, such as the communicative ones, the ones related to language and learning and provide pedagogical value. It aligns with the general objective of the KidLe project as it ensures that the games support pedagogical values: communication, vocabulary development, creativity and critical thinking, showing the links between playing and the development of children.

What are its contents?

KidLe’s Pedagogical Handbook starts with an introduction explaining what the mission of the project is. Then it mentions the four distinct phases of the co-creation process: orientation, creation, game play and elaboration.

It continues with the Benefits and Learning Outcomes from Playing Each Game. First, it focuses on the general benefits targeted across all games, and second, it highlights the specific learning outcomes by game.

Let’s remember the games! These are:

  • Friends (Ireland)
  • The Journey (Cyprus)
  • Better Together (Austria)
  • Space Inclusion (Portugal)
  • Togetherland (Belgium).

Back to the contents of the handbook, it then highlights the pedagogical dimensions of the KidLe games for children, for teachers or educators and for parents.

Right after comes the intercultural dimension of the KidLe board games and the more practical section with step-by-step guidance on how to use the platform. A link to a tutorial video is included in the handbook for a better understanding. Continuing with the practical sections, readers have guidance on how to play each game.

The conclusion, together with the references, covers the last part of the pedagogical handbook.

How long is KidLe’s Pedagogical Handbook?
