How to teach adults on how to improve their Digital Skills

The capacity to find, assess, use, share, and create content using digital devices, such as computers and smartphones, is referred to as having digital skills.

The digital skills needed in the workplace today are a little more sophisticated, and employers anticipate that the vast majority of their employees will possess them, not just a small percentage. Our lives revolve on technology, and as our reliance on the internet and digital communications grows, so does the need for our workforce to adapt to changing skill requirements.

But how can adults improve their digital skills?

There are several ways to help adults improve their digital skills. Some of them are the following:

  • Show them how to communicate online and properly use email;
  • Give them a topic to conduct online research;
  • Teach them how to use online collaborative spaces such as Google Drive, DropBox, and Microsoft Teams;
  • Implement activities that require the creation of spreadsheets and online documents;
  • Teach them how to properly install software and how to distinguish which of those are safe and which are not;
  • Show them how to use online calendars and manage their schedule online.

Of course, there are several initiatives out there, which will help you to acquire the tools required for teaching digital skills to adults. One of those is the Erasmus+ project, called MENTORING CHANGE. MENTORING CHANGE is a reverse – mentoring project aimed at improving digital skills for adults by using mentors specifically trained to understand individual’s soft skills, job preferences and learning styles and who can teach digital skills in a way that is innovative and engaging.
